Cybersecurity Coalition Supports Departments of Homeland Security and Commerce Botnet Report to President

Washington, D.C. – May 30, 2018 – Today, Departments of Homeland Security and Commerce released their Report to the President on Enhancing the Resilience of the Internet and Communications Ecosystem Against Botnets and Other Automated, Distributed Threats (“Botnet Report”).

The Coalition supports and agrees with the findings and recommendations of the Botnet Report. Specifically, the Coalition was encouraged by the report’s findings that public-private partnerships are critical to addressing the ongoing and growing threat automated, distributed threats present to the global cybersecurity ecosystem. You can find a copy of our original comments filed on the Botnet Report here.

“DHS and Commerce put a lot of hard work into this report and the end-result is strong,” said Ari Schwartz, Executive Director of the Cybersecurity Coalition. “The Cybersecurity Coalition wishes to thank them for this excellent report and looks forward to partnering with DHS, Commerce and the White House on the needed public-private partnership for its implementation”

The Botnet Reports makes many recommendations, including on how the Cybersecurity Coalition’s Framework Profile for determining and managing risk related to Distributed Denial of Service (“DDoS”) and botnet attacks was an encouraging advancement in public-private partnership to respond to the threats from DDoS and botnet attacks.  Adapted from the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s Cybersecurity Framework, the Coalition’s profile is designed to provide public and private organizations with a playbook for developing a more robust cybersecurity posture against automated attacks.
